What to Wear and How to Pack

Summer is just around the corner and for many families, that means vacations. What do you pack
when you go on vacation? Comfy clothes? Your favorite stylish clothes?
Whatever you pack, here are a few tips on what and how to pack.

First of all, how to pack:

  1. Make a packing list. I can't live without my packing list. I would be totally lost without it. It has grown longer and longer with almost every trip. Yep I bring lots of stuff to help make my vacation as comfy as possible.
  2. Once you know what you want to pack, begin the process by rolling your clothes, not folding. I am sure you may have heard this before. Why? Rolling  helps prevent some wrinkles and creases. Also, rolling uses space wisely. You can fit more when you roll.
  3. Plan your outfits ahead of time, so you will pack only what you really need to. I always pack 1 or 2 extra outfits so I have more to choose from.
  4. To save even more space, pack your socks inside your shoes. You can even pack your jewelry or other breakables inside your socks and then inside your shoes. This will protect them.
  5. Always pack a first aid kit. It always comes in handy.
  6. Put items that could potentially leak into a ziploc bag to prevent unwanted surprises when you get to your destination.
Now, what to pack:
  1. Pack for weather. You may be going somewhere warm, but what if it rains. Pack layers and at least 1 pair of pants just in case. A light jacket or sweater is smart too.
  2. Pack shoes that can be worn with several outfits. Also, pack shoes for walking if you plan to go hiking or shopping.
  3. Jewelry, hat, and belt if you need one.
  4. Pack a swim suit if you plan to lay out in the sun or go swimming.
  5. Do Not forget chargers for your electronics.
  6. If you wear contacts, bring an extra pair if you can and don't forget your glasses.
  7. I always pack a couple hair ties and lip balm.
  8. Pack your camera so you can capture your trip and look back on it for years.
  9. Last but not least, bring snacks and fun activities to make the ride more entertaining.
I hope this helped you prepare for your Summer vacation. Have a great time and be safe!!!

What to Wear Wednesday!!! Working out

I have been going to a local gym for a while now. I have spent the last 20+ years working out in my home to aerobic tapes or Youtube videos or the Wii fit. Well, I have decided to give back to myself. My kids are growing up and I feel I deserve a little extra something for myself. So, today's what to wear tip is about working out. I am posting 2 articles this time. One is what to wear in 2018 for working out and one is what not to wear. Both are equally important and interesting reads. I hope you enjoy them and I hope you do some sort of exercise to keep healthy and strong. Our bodies need it.

What to Wear For Summer 2018

Google Images
As I was doing some research on the styles coming for this Summer, one thing became pretty clear. The clothes I wore in high school are coming back and it seems so strange. I remember when my mom would say things are coming back and now here I am saying it.
This Summer there is a lot of ruffles, flowing tops, cut off shorts and skirts, high waists and crop tops. Oh, and I can't forget....rompers are back!!!
I have a great article that has photos of the up and coming style. Check it out here!

Great Mother's Day Gift Ideas

Mother's Day is just days away. What should you get Mom this year? Here are some ideas for some great Mother's Day gifts.
  1. Flowers are always a great gift. Why not try a bouquet of your mothers favorite flowers but in silk? There are some places that make amazing life like silk flowers and they will last forever.
  2. Blankets or wraps. As we get older we seem to get colder. hehe I love wrapping up in a soft blanket and a wrap is like a blanket that can go anywhere with mom.
  3. Herb garden. Does your mom like to cook? Is she a good cook? Plant her a little herb garden. It can be an outdoor one in a planter or an indoor one in little planters for each herb. Whatever your creative juices tell you to do, you can do.
  4. Spa day! Give your mom a day to relax and be pampered. If you can't afford a whole day, how about just a manicure or pedicure or facial. She will thank you.
  5. Jewelry is always a good gift. I am selling Paparazzi Jewelry if you need some. Lol
  6. Give your mom the day off by hiring someone to clean her house or maybe take a day and clean it for her if you can't afford to hire someone.
  7. Wine or wine glasses if your mom likes to drink wine. You can put a book in with it for a relaxing evening.
  8. Mugs or coffee cups. I know she probably has a million, but be creative. I use Shutterfly to make mugs with photos on them for a personal touch.
  9. Gardening tools. Does she like to garden? Give her a gift basket of gardening stuff. Even if she already has some, she can always use more.
  10. Candy or other treats that you have to go to a special candy store or bakery to get, not just your local supermarket.
There you go, 10 great ideas for gifts for mom. You have no excuse now, show her how much she really means to you.

6 Tricks to Looking Better in Photos

I can't even begin to tell you how many times I have people asking me if I can Photoshop this or that out of their photo. Some even say, can you make me look beautiful. First, I want to say, you are beautiful! God made you in his image and that makes you beautiful. Secondly, I can do Photoshop but I can't fix everything.
So, here are a few tips to take what God gave you and like what you see.

  1.  Don't take photos from a low angle. If you are taking a selfie, hold your phone up a little so you don't get a double chin. This works for someone else taking your photo as well.
  2.  Pay attention to how you are standing or sitting. Stand or sit up straight and you will look thinner.
  3. Stand slightly sideways when facing the camera. Facing the camera straight on makes you appear wider and no one wants that.
  4. As well as standing or sitting straight, pull your shoulders back. This makes you appear slimmer and more confident.
  5. Wear vertical stripes not horizontal because they make you look longer and slimmer.
  6. Take some selfies until you find an angle you like. You don't have to share them with everyone else, but if you practice, I guarantee you will find something you really like.

I joke around and say there is a reason I am not on the other side of the camera, so I need to take some of my own advice....hehe. I did however start to use the tricks and take some selfies and I found some photos of myself I really like. Here is one:

I hope this helps you like yourself more in photos. Shoot me some of your favorite photos of yourself. I want to see the beautiful you!!!!

What to Wear!!!! Swimsuits

Summer is on it's way and so is swimsuit season, so I thought it would be good to stay ahead of the game.
I don't know anyone who likes shopping for this one piece of attire that seems to cause such emotion. I have provided some tips to help you look for a swimsuit that will flatter your figure, so you will look in that mirror and smile. 😊
  • If you want to hide your waist, avoid a tankini. Look more towards a one piece or a bikini with a high waisted bottom to hide the waist. Also, look for a darker color.
  • If you have a larger bust and want to make your hips appear wider to get an hour glass shape, try a suit with boy shorts. Not everyone can wear these, I warn you, because they can be uncomfortable.
  • Another suit for a larger bust is one with an underwire and has a straight cut across the top with large straps. This look will minimize the bust some.
  • If you have a smaller bust and want to make it appear larger, choose a halter top, triangle top or a top with embellishments on the front. You can also go for a padded top too.
  • If you are shorter or are short waisted, choose bottoms with a high cut. This makes the legs appear longer.
  • If you have a tummy pouch, a suit with a peplum or ruching will be your best bet.
Here is some examples:

Vyne World

Swimsuit shopping doesn't have to be a bad experience. It can be fun! Take some time to do more research on your body type and what looks best on it and you will be feeling proud of the body God gave you.

What Not To Wear!!!

Pinterest.com

I usually do a What to Wear Wednesday, but today I decided to put up a What Not To Wear Wednesday. Some styles seem to come and go very fast, but there are some you need to just avoid. Here is 7 things you should never wear:

  1. Men should never, ever where "jorts", in other words, jean shorts. They are so not flattering on you guys, so please abstain from wearing them.
  2. Leggings as pants. I know this is a hard subject, but really, ladies, leggings were made to be worn with long shirts or dresses. Your bum should be covered unless you are heading to or from the gym. Sorry!!!
  3. Low rise jeans if you don't have the body for them. There is a certain body type for these jeans and not many of us women have it. If you have any belly fat, please try another style, because you are not doing yourself justice by wearing something that doesn't flatter you. You are beautiful, wear something that makes you look more beautiful, not less.
  4. On the other hand, mom jeans are a big don't as well. Again not many body types can pull them off, so don't wear something that doesn't flatter you.
  5. The wrong bra. I am getting a bit personal, but you have seen that woman who wears to wrong size bra. Please take the time to get a proper fitting. You will thank me!!!
  6. Mini skirts if you are over 40. Sorry ladies, I am over 40 as well. There are so many other options for you, take the time to try one. Besides you want to look respectable....right?
  7. Spaghetti strap tanks if you are busty. A wider strap is much better for comfort and style.
I am sure you will agree with some of these and disagree with others and that is fine. We each have our own style. What ever your style is or is not, remember the most important thing you can put on is a smile and a positive attitude. God made you. Be proud of who he made you to be.

Foto Tip Friday!! Ways to Be Photogenic

This week I want to touch on something most of us feel we have a problem with....being photogenic. Now, we are our own worst critic. Most of the time a friend or family member will look at a photo we have just shredded with our negative comments, and say "I love how you look in that photo!" To which, we assume they must be lying through their teeth. Well, here are a few tips to help. I can't change the attitude of your heart, but I can help you make the best effort before you face that camera.

1.   Give yourself a mini makeover. I don't know what your routine is for washing your face and putting on your makeup (girls). By the way, this can go for guys too, the face washing part. hehe Anyway, take a little extra time before your session to wash your face and moisturize it. Girls, when you put on your makeup, take extra time to make sure your foundation and concealer are blended in well, and that there are no sharp lines in your blush or eye shadow. Do Not try a new makeup trick. Save that for another day.

2.  Focus on what you like about yourself. If you go into the session with confidence, it shows. Don't concentrate on those freckles you don't like or that you think your nose is too big. Only surgery can change those things, and chances are you will find something else you don't like after fixing the current ones. Plus, you don't have time for that. Look in the mirror, smile, and appreciate what God gave you. He doesn't make mistakes. =)

3.   Don't face the camera head on. What does that mean? That means, turn your body to one side or another even a little bit. Having your body face the camera head on does add that dreaded 10 pounds we hear about and often see in our photos. Angling your body makes you look thinner and most of us would love that.

So, there you have it, a few tips to take with you before your photo session and hopefully you won't dread it  quite as much.

What to Wear Wednesday!!!! Green

This is my last day talking about color. I hope you have
enjoyed reading about it and have learned something from these posts.
The final color is Green! Green is one of those colors that either you love it or you hate it. You may not like one shade of green but love another.
Green brings with it a feeling of nature, money, safety and life. It is often used with anything to do with health and military. It is also becoming a popular color to use in websites.
Green goes well with pretty much any skin type, especially if you have green eyes.
How often do you wear green? What color do you wear the most? Tell me about it.

How to Choose a Backdrop!

It is the job of the photographer to know what backdrop works best, but it doesn't hurt to have some ideas in your pocket before your own session. When choosing a backdrop you want to keep a few things in mind.

  1. You want a backdrop that emphasizes you, not takes over the photo.
  2. Choose a color that will bring out your eyes. Eyes are usually the first thing people see when looking at a photo.
  3. Choose a color that contrasts with your skin tone. For example, someone who is blonde, light skin tone, and blue eyes would work best in front of a blue background. Their face would be visually pleasing because the blue compliments it. Don't choose something too dark, because it might wash you out.

I have many, many backdrops to choose from. To see them all, simply go to my website. For now, here is a few of my favorites.

What to Wear Wednesday!!!!! Pink

Just a couple more weeks in color.  I hope you have found color to be so much more than just pretty.

Today's color is pink. Do you ever wear pink? Some will say "Sure, I love pink", while others  "No Way!!!". So what does pink make you think of? Baby girls..... flowers.......femininity.

Pink says romance, love, friendship, beauty, and of course yes, baby girls. Pink is often used for Valentines Day, Mother's Day, and in weddings. Even if it is not one of the main colors chosen for a wedding you will still often see it as a secondary color.  It is a very feminine color but it has poked its head into many men's clothing departments. Pink works best for light skin tones and blonde hair although almost anyone can wear it.

Try it out. Do you dare!? LOL

Foto Tip Friday!!! Lifestyle Photography

Today's tip is about lifestyle photography. It used to be that most photos were planned and posed. The trend over the past few years has become capturing life as it happens. Here are some tips to capture great lifestyle photos.

1. Kids are great subjects. While they are playing, sit off to the side and click away. I love the way kids play. They are so sweet and  intentional.

2.  Take many photos to capture before, during, and after life moments. If your camera has the setting to take several photos at once (continuous) set it to this and click away. Go through them and
keep the ones that really speak to you.

3. Give your subjects something to do, sit back and click. It is so neat to get those moments when they think they are not being watched.

4.  Capture those moments that show emotion and passion. You can't plan for photos like this. When you look back on them you will feel that moment all over again.

Next time you take photos, don't pose them and let life happen. You will be happy you did!

What to Wear Wednesday!!!! White

We are still talking about color. This weeks color is.....White.
Most of us know what white stands for....purity. That is why a bride wears white on her wedding day. What else does it make you think of? How about freshness and cleanliness. That is part of why hotels use white linens in their rooms. White is also associated with things being heavenly. What color are angels wings? It is also often used in hospitals, charities, and even Hollywood because it brings a feeling of peace and simplicity.
Be careful when wearing white though. If you have very pale skin, white can make you appear even more pale.
White is a great color for a backdrop because it does not take the eye away from the subject of the photo it actually leads the eye to it.
So, there you go. White can be very versatile and fun to wear. Do you wear white? Tell me about it.

Foto Tip Friday!!!!! Vacation photography

Vacation Photography Tips

Spring break has just begun for me and my family. Usually we go somewhere, but this year we are staying home. I am sure many people will be traveling so I thought I would give some tips on vacation photography.

1. If you own a big DSLR, you may want to also bring a small point and shoot camera. They are easier to carry around and quicker when you want to grab a quick shot of something.

2.If you are on a tour, don't be afraid to step away from the group to take some photos with less people in them.

3. Include people in your photos as much as possible. Unless you are on vacation alone, not only is the vacation spot important but the people you are with are important as well. They are a part of the memories.

4. Make sure your batteries are fresh or fully charged. We have all had those moments when we realize we have a dead battery and missed some amazing shots. These are not happy memories. 😟

5. Along with batteries, make sure you have an empty SD card or bring extras. Again, we have all had those moments that we don't like.

6. Take photos of the food you eat, especially if it is something you don't get to eat often at you hometown restaurants.

Here is just a few tips to remember before your next vacation. Have fun! Capture the type of memories that make you feel like you are there again when you look at your photos. Vacations don't happen everyday, so capture as many moments as you can.

What to Wear Wednesday!!! Yellow

Lush Fab Glam Blogazine

Yellow is the brightest color to the human eye. Yellow often reminds us of youth, cheerfulness, sunshine, and warmth. It is often used in children's toys because babies love bright colors.
Unfortunately, there are reminders that are less than attractive as well, like cowardice (yellow-bellied). But we won't dwell on that. ; )

Yellow is one of those colors you want to be careful when you wear it. Make sure you find a hue that goes well with your skin tone. The lighter your skin, the darker the yellows, such as mustard yellow. If you have darker skin you can pull off a lemony yellow. Try it out! Have fun! Don't be scared to be bold!

Easter/Spring Mini Sessions

Spring and Easter are right around the corner. It is hard to believe but it is true. So, with that in mind, I want to announce my Spring/Easter Mini Session. I am doing it a little different this time around. I am not going to post a specific date and times, I am going to do it the whole month of March. I will post some backdrops and some props that I have to go with the mini session. These sessions are done at my home in my studio. To make it even more fun, I am taking $20 off my usually fee of $99. What do you get for this price? You get 30 minutes of photo taking and 5 edited photos saved to a disk with a release, so you can print as many photos as you want for your family and friends.
Just to give you a sneak peak, sort of, I have big Easter eggs, Easter baskets, and grass for some of the props for the Easter photos. Oh, and I can't forget an Easter Bunny. Sorry he is not a live bunny.
For Spring props, I have a lemonade stand and flowers so far. More to come for sure. Check back!!!!

What to Wear Wednesday!!! Color!!!

This week we are talking about color again. Last week was blue. This week is my favorite color....purple
Throughout history, purple has symbolized royalty. It also symbolizes magic, richness, and luxury. Light purple with pink is a popular combo for tween girls. Make it brighter and pair it with other bright colors and it is used to sell children's toys or for popular sports teams. Purple was also a color mentioned in the Bible, so it can also be associated with spirituality.

Here are some fun examples of sessions I did where my client was wearing purple:

Purple goes great with almost any skin and hair color. I like it best with blond hair and blue eyes.

I have so many more examples in flowers and people and sunrises and.......the list goes on and on.

A day in my life....

I don't exactly lead a super exciting life, but I have to say, I love my life. I have been really blessed. I have a great husband and 5 amazing kids, 2 of which are now on their own starting their own lives. But what do I do each day? I will use today as an example.
I got up at about 5:30 am and started my day with a devotional and prayer. I love this time of the day. It really gets my day off on the right foot.
At about 6 am, I got dressed and opened my bedroom door to the sweetest kitty ever. He is always waiting for me. I fed him, let the dog out, and gave them both a little morning treat.
Next, I ate my breakfast and sat for a few minutes before I finished getting myself ready for the day. By now my kids were up getting ready for school and eating their breakfast as well.
At 7 am we headed off to school and work. I dropped the kids off and then headed to my job at a local elementary school as a food and nutrition clerk. I got off work at 1:30 and ran errands. Some days I go to the gym. Today though, I ran a couple errands and then did a work out at home.
I wish my day was over at that point and I could sit and relax, but that is not how it went. Instead I did some chores around the house and then sat down to edit some photos I took for a sweet couple a few days ago.
Then it was time for me to feed the crew. They say I am a great cook, which I love to hear. I love taking care of my family and keeping them happy and comfortable. It is very important to me that my home is a place they love to be.
That leads me to what I am doing now. I am doing some computer work. In a few minutes, I will shut it off and sit and enjoy some time sitting with my hubby and watching some tv.
Like I said, it is not a glamorous life, but it is mine. God has blessed me!!! I am so very thankful!

What do you get for your money?

When you book a session with Remembrance Photography, what exactly do you get?

  1. 1 hour of photo taking on location. On location means anywhere within the quad cities area of Prescott, Prescott Valley, Chino Valley, or Dewey. I also do photos outside the quad cities area for an extra charge for travel.
  2. Unlimited clothing changes. You can bring as many outfits as your heart desires, just remember, changing clothes does cut into photo taking time.
  3. 12 edited photos. When I say edited, I mean a tweak here and a touch up there. Usually it is nothing major, but just enough to make your photos pop. And if you want more than 12 photos, it's super easy. They are only $12 for each additional photo. It is worth it, to have that photo to remember your day.
  4. Photos are saved to a disk at no extra charge. You have complete control of your photographs. You get to print out whatever sizes you want. You get to print out as many as you want. I say that is worth the cost!!

To check it out for yourself, go to www.prescottfamilyphotography.com and click on the prices tab. I have other great sessions as well. See what works best for you and call me today!!!!

What to Wear Wednesdays!!! Blue

I want to take a few weeks to talk about color. Color is everywhere and makes a statement. Clothing colors are no different.
Let's start with Blue. Blue is a cool, calming color, that is popular in almost any shade. It is popular with large companies, hospitals and airlines. Blue gives a feeling of peace, stability, confidence, tranquility, and affection. I made my brand in the color blue, not just because I like the color, but  because of the feeling it brings to people.

Here are a couple examples of photos I have taken with blue.

Notice how the blue in their shirts make their eyes pop and their skin glow.
Try using blue in your next photos!

What's with the mini sessions anyway?

I have done mini sessions several times in the past, but they don't seem to get the attention I would like to see them get. So, I thought, maybe I need to explain what my mini sessions are like. Well, in one word.....FUN!!!! Lol, ok I am biased. But really, what is with these sessions anyway? What makes them different then the other sessions.
First, they are a smaller version of my full session. Mini sessions are convenient and quick. They work great for busy families who don't have a lot of time. Everything is set up and ready. All I need is your smile.
Secondly, they are less expensive. You still get a variety of photos but at a lower price. There is no sitting fee. Just one easy price.
Lastly, like I said, they are fun. Sometimes I have little gifts for the kids when they give me their best smiles. I sometimes even have a little something for the adults. I want this to be fun. Many people don't love getting their photo taken, but I try to make it an enjoyable time for everyone.

What do you think? Doesn't sound so bad, does it?
Keep an eye out for my next mini session. You don't want to miss it.
Below I have a few examples of sessions I have done in the past.

Foto Tip Friday!!

These days we have so many options for photos.
Photography studios are still around but you may have noticed that the department store studios are becoming a thing of the past. The digital era is making it easier to choose a backdrop and have it put into your photo in post processing. Phones have become better photo takers than an expensive camera.....well, sometimes.
I prefer outdoor photography because it offers natural lighting and endless options. Drive around and you can find several areas that would make beautiful backdrops for your photos. Check out your own backyard for ideas. Browse photos online to get oodles of ideas. Keep in mind that the location should match the personality of the people in the photo. Have fun and try all sorts of different places.
If you decide to go with the digital options, again browse online and you will find many ideas.
Have fun being creative!
