Throw Back Thursday!!!!

I found this photo of my daughter back in 2011. This was taken before we headed to her orchestra concert. I love using mirrors in photos. It adds fun and character to a photo.

Throwback Thursday!!!

I absolutely love this photo. I took it back in 2011 while on vacation. We were waiting for our ride and I happened to look over and see my son entertaining himself in the mirrored wall. It was a memory I am so glad I caught. LOL!

Throwback Thursday!!!

Here is a photo I took back in 2010 on a camping trip. There was a beautiful creek that we put our feet in to cool off. It doesn't stay for long because the heat drys it up by July.

Throwback Thursday!!!

I took this photo of my daughter back in 2010. I would often take photos throughout the year and then choose my favorite for the school photo. I did not choose this one. hehe

One Last Attempt!!!

Ok. We have 5 days left of this challenge. I am at 182 likes for my facebook page and would love to reach 250. Why? Because I am giving $1 for every new like I get in the month of September to a young boy suffering from ALS. My heart goes out to the family of this young boy as they plan his upcoming funeral. I can't even imagine. So, I put out this plea once again. If you have not clicked "like" on my Facebook page (www.facebook.com/remembrancephoto11) please do. If you have already click "like" on my page (not this post) then please share this on your own page. To read more about this young  boy just go to https://www.giveforward.com/fundraiser/px55/gabriel-reyes-lou-gehrig-s-disease-fund, and read all about him. Thank you to those who have joined my page this month.

Foto Tip!!!! Free Flash Diffuser

The last couple of weeks I talked about lighting and flash. Today, I have a neat tip about using your flash. Your flash can be an asset or a liability to your photos. Too much can leave your subject looking like they desperately need a tan and too little can leave them hiding in the dark. How do you get a happy medium without taking a few steps back? A flash diffuser is your answer. Now not everyone has a diffuser, so here is a fun trick you can do for Free. If you have a point and shoot camera, you can simply tape a piece of wax paper over your flash. If you use a DSL-R use an old film canister, the milky colored kind, and place it over your flash. If you don't have one laying around, go to your nearest photo lab and they should have dozens they would be happy to part with.
So, what exactly does a diffuser do, you ask? The diffuser helps spread the light from the flash around rather than it all concentrated to one area like a spot light.
Try this out and let me know how it works for you. Have fun and Happy Clicking!!!

What to Wear Wednesday!!!! Men's Styles!

Last week, I talked about some of the popular styles out there for women. Today, I want to talk about men's styles. I didn't think this would be hard at all, but on the contrary it is harder than I thought. No offense, men, but you don't have a whole lot of diversity. hehe Sorry. Here is what I did find:

1. Jackets, sweaters, sport coats......these are some of the items in style right now. Layering is the big thing. Layers can go 2 or 3 items deep, such as a t-shirt with a sweater and a casual blazer over top.

maninpink.co

2. Jeans are still pretty slim. Skinny jeans are still the thing if you can wear them. If you are not into that type of thing, don't worry, there are plenty of boot cut and straight leg options still available and they look just as stylish.

3. Men's shoe styles have not changed a whole lot. Right now there are a lot of high top sneakers and boots. Dress shoes are very much in and some of these even come in a high top style as well.

As I go over what I have written here, I see that men's styles have not changed much over the years. When taking a photo all the same rules apply with men as in women. Wear something that is a neutral color, not bright colors or patterns. Hope I helped some of you men out there!  Enjoy and Happy Clicking!!!

What to Wear Wednesday!!! Clothes for School Photos

School photos!!!! Some kids get all dressed up for them and then others really don't care because they always seem to turn out bad anyway. Here are a few tips for helping your kids pick out clothes so their photos have a chance to be great!!!

1. Many schools send home a sheet with options for backdrops. When choosing clothes make sure it is not the same color as the backdrop.

2. Wear something simple, not loud and busy. This will just take away from the child's face, and that is what we want to see.

3. Girls, wear something that flatters your figure, but is not too revealing.

4. Boys, dress up a little. You don't have to look like you are going to the prom, but wear something clean and fits good.

5.  Wear something that compliments your skin tone. Here are some ideas:

        Dark skin
          -yellow
          -orange
          - blue

         Medium Skin
           -light orange
           -yellow
           -brown
           -red

         Light Skin
           -light blue
           -pink
           -purple
           -brown

There you have it. You will be ready for those school photos and won't have to dread them. If you find that the photo does not turn out the way you like, give me a call and take advantage of my $10 school photos. I will make sure you are happy with them. www.remembrance-photography.net

Throw Back Thursday!!!

This is a photo of my now 18 year old daughter going to her 8th grade formal in 2009. As you can see it is a nice but traditional pose and not real sharp. I was happy with this photo when I took it, but not so much now. hehe This is why practice is so important. Continue to practice and take time to learn new poses and techniques.

Throwback Thursday!!!

I have come to love Thursdays. It is so fun looking back at the photos I took when I first started. So many memories!

Today's photo is of my now 13 year old daughter. I was trying to get something for a school photo and in this photo, I put a blanket that was made by my niece as the background. I never did use this photo, because I felt the blanket took away from her. Seems like so long ago, but yet not so long! Sigh!

Throwback Thursday!!!!

Let's throw ourselves back into the past. Well, ok, throw myself back into the past.

I have to chuckle when I see this photo. It is one of the first photos I took as a photographer. I was sooo proud of it and many people complimented me on it. It looks great, right? Wrong!  This was before I knew about pixels and resolution. I was using a free editing program from the web that basically ruined my photo for printing in larger sizes. Thankfully, I have learned a lot since then. I now know about resolution and pixels, and use Adobe Photoshop for editing so my images can now be printed in very large sizes. Whew!!!
If you do any type of photography, do yourself a favor and learn a little about it. It will make a huge difference in the end. =)

10 Things a Photographer Should NOT Do!!!

  1. Put emphasis on camera and gear. It is the photographing that makes the photographer. Yes, the camera and gear can add to the photo but if you don't take good photos to begin with, a camera or filter isn't going to fix it for you.
  2. Leave your camera at home. I have a smaller camera I keep in my purse for those photo ops that may not come again.
  3. Photograph everyone and everything. You will become burnt out very quickly. Find 2 or 3 areas that you love to photograph and concentrate on them. Make them your specialty.
  4. Ignore blogging! Blogging can be a great source for possible clients to see your work and to learn about you as a photographer.
  5. Post photos without your brand on them. Photos get stolen all the time. Place your logo in a place that is not easy to Photoshop out or post at a size that will not show well if blown up.
  6. Think you don't need Photoshop skills. You do! Yes, first you need to start with great photography, but it is handy to know a few tricks to add a pop to your photos.
  7. Compare yourself to other photographers. You will always find someone better than you, or at least you think so. You are unique in your own photographing. People will look at your photos and say "I wish I could take photos like that". Compare your work to no one else's but your own.
  8. Take photos only when the special occasion arises. No! Take photos everyday if you can. It is hard to find objects or people sometimes, but you will definitely see yourself improve and learn.
  9. Go to a photo session or special occasion without extra SD cards or chargers. You don't want to be ready to take that shot you know is going to be the One and find you have no more room on you SD card or your battery dies. Ugh! Not a fun feeling!
  10. Think you know all that you need to know. Whether you doing photos for a business or for pleasure, there is always new techniques or tricks to learn. Spend some time everyday to learn a little about your camera, a new photo trick, a Photoshop technique, etc. The list is endless!!!
I am sure there are many more!!!! These are just a few! What would you add?

Monsoons!!!!

Here in Arizona we have monsoon season. I grew up in North Dakota so sometimes all summer was a monsoon. It was so strange to me that there was mainly 1 or 2 months that is rained. It can rain a lot and sometimes we can go through the season with very little. One thing I love about monsoon season is the beautiful photos of the sky. Here are just a few!
