What To Wear Wednesday! Senior Photos

Being a Senior is one of the most memorable time in a persons life. I bet you remember graduation day. You were excited yet a little scared to step out into the big world. This is a time to capture. I have listed 6 ways to make your Senior photo session a successful one.

1. Bring a few different choices in clothing. I would recommend about 3 clothing changes. Some thoughts would be a casual outfit, a dressy outfit, and maybe something that tells what you did in high school. (ie. cheerleaders uniform or sports jersey)

2. Avoid large patterns! These can add that 10 lbs. But wearing darker colors can take off lbs.

3. Wear sunglasses for a couple photos. You are young and can get away with looking like a movie star!

4. Avoid wearing tank tops unless it is the real you. Tank tops are not real flattering for photos, but if you are known for wearing them then show it off.

5. Girls, put on a fresh coat of nail polish to sharpen up those hands and make them sparkle.

6. Last, but not least.......The most important thing to remember is to Be Yourself! That is the whole point of Senior photos, to capture this milestone in your life. Bring a prop that has been important to you for all these years. Sometimes it can be a pet or maybe just a special gift your were given. This is about you and who you are and have become. Enjoy it!!!

There you have it.....a few tips for your Senior session.  Have a blast saying cheese!!!!

Why I do what I do!!

I believe everyone has a gift. A gift they are given to share with others. Some people have the gift of speaking, others of entertaining, and others creating. I have been given a couple of gifts.....well, probably more than a couple but 2 stand out the most. One is the gift of nurturing. I am a mom of 5 and I love them all with all my heart. I love being a mom. It is my favorite job of all. I have been given the opportunity to be a mother to hundreds of kids everyday through a job as a Clerk for Child Nutrition at a local school. I get smiles, and sometimes hugs, and even a "your my favorite". I love being a friendly face for these children every day. My second gift is that of photography. If you have read any of my posts you probably already know how important memories are to me. I love to capture them and look back on them often. I love to do the same for others. I don't do photography to make lots of money, I do it to make lots of memories stay alive. That is why I do what I do. What are your gifts? What do you love to give back to others? Share with me. I would love to know.

What to Wear Wednesday!!!! Newborn Photos

What should your baby wear for his/her first portraits? Or should he/she wear anything at all? Now days newborn photos can be taken in a variety of ways. I remember when my first baby had photos. She was propped up in her prettiest dress with me hiding in the background holding her up while the photographer tried to get her to smile for the camera. Her first photos were when she was 3 months. Newborn photos weren't what they are today. They have become so very popular, I wish I had done it with my own kids.  How do you want the photos of your little darling to be seen 20 years from now? Well, here are a few tips.....

Take some photos with and without clothes.
If you are not comfortable with photographing
your baby without clothes, than down to the diaper.
You will want to remember every
inch of them at this size.

Use a special blanket or scarf instead of clothes.
This will make the photo even more personal.

Make sure Mom and Dad get in the photos as well.
I suggest they wear something neutral to
keep the emphasis on your new baby.
Dad, take a photo with your newborn without your shirt.
Skin to skin is so sweet!!

If you want to put clothes on your baby for some of the photos,
that is totally fine.
Don't feel like you are the only one who chooses to
dress your baby when you see so many naked ones out there. hehe.
I suggest you choose something simple
without too many frills or big collars.
These can get in the way of the babies face
or make your baby uncomfortable.

This is my personal opinion, so take it as you wish.
Never put shoes on a newborn!!!! Why?
Because their little feet and toes are
way to precious to not show off.

Lastly, be sure to bring more than one thing to put your baby in.
More than likely, you will need to change
because of the little messes that come with these little sweeties.

There you have it. Some tips for your babies first photos. Remember, just have fun! Don't be stressed if your baby cries. If you have a good photographer, they have put aside lots of time for you to capture your photos.

Digital Backgrounds

When I took my kids for their baby photos, I often took them to a studio that had all these different backdrops that could be pulled down like a shade. My things have changed. Now we have the ability to use digital backdrops. For those who don't know what that is...it is a background that can be put in after the photo is taken in a photo editing software. I do this quite often. I use a white backdrop and add the background later. Here is a couple of examples:

These are the photos I did of my children for school. I love how it turned out. I have so many backdrops in almost any color and pattern. Here are a couple more......

These are a little more colorful, but I have more subtle ones too. They are so fun to work with. I love technology. hehe To see more please feel free to contact me here.

On to my tip for the week. Do you know what a polarizing filter is? If so, do you use one? I use them sometimes. I could explain to you what they are and how to use them, but I found an article that does it so well. Like I said, time is not on my side. hehe Check out this article and let me know what you think.

My favorite place!

I love, love, love the ocean. It is one of my favorite places! It is so mesmerizing how God could create something so beautiful and yet so powerful. I have taken so many photos of the ocean. I wanted to share some of my favorites.

My room is adorned with photos like these. I wanted a place to go that made me feel like I was at the ocean, and my bedroom was the place.

What is your favorite place? Share it with me.

Jeans.....a perfect fit

It is apparent that jeans are here to stay. Jeans were first invented in 1871 by Jacob W. Davis in partnership with Levi Strauss Co. and they don't appear to be going anywhere anytime soon. Jeans have evolved over the years with different shapes and fabrics and of course trends. So, what jeans fit you the best? I don't know for me. I just try them on and if I like them, I buy them. My hubby only wears Levi's because they are the best fit for his more muscular body shape.
I have found a good article that can help you find out what jeans you should be wearing for your body shape. Check it out. You may be surprised.

What is Your Best Side?

You have heard it said "My left/right side is my best side for photos".  Well, apparently there is a best side according to Kelsey Blackburn and James Schirillo from Wake Forest University. They performed a study that revealed that our left side is more photogenic than our right. Why? The research suggests that the left side shows more emotion which is more pleasing in photos. Interesting!!!!!

Digital Photography 1 Class

Maybe you have heard me talk about my Digital Photography 1 class in the past. I have mentioned it here in my blog, on Facebook, and in my Foto Tip Friday videos. Well, here it is again.

I have taught a class in person several times and it went over great. The people who attended it really enjoyed it and learned a lot. But there were several people who wanted to come but couldn't because it conflicted with their schedules. I decided something had to change. Then I got the idea to put it on as a video and then anyone can see it when it is convenient for them.

So, here are the details:

The video is approximately 45 minutes long. It teaches about the basics of using a DSLR camera. The goal is to prepare you to choose your own setting by choosing manual mode over auto mode. The video teaches about such things as the exposure triangle, lighting, and photo taking tips. With the purchase of this video, you also receive an invitation to join a Facebook page along with other participants who have taken this course. I am hoping this will help you all be able to ask and answer any questions you have as you practice what you learn. You will also receive a detailed lesson on aperture to your email. Aperture can be rather confusing, but this lesson will help clear it all up for you.

Now, how much is this course? It is being offered for only $10 to the first 10 people who purchase it. After that, it will be for only $25.

I hope you will take advantage of this opportunity. Take the time this new year to capture all those sweet moments you don't want to ever forget.

What is Your Style?

I just took this quiz and it was really fun. It was a quiz that told me what my style is. Now they didn't have any questions about sweats and slippers...LOL...that's what I typically wear at home. But I did find out that I am classic and sometimes whimsical. I am not one who has to have the latest trends, but I do like to have style. I love Summer dresses and cute flip flops and in the winter I like big tops with leggings or comfy jeans and a cute sweatshirt. I don't want to look like a mom, but also don't want to look like a mom who is trying to look like her teenage daughter. How about you? Take the quiz and find out your style.

The Pride of Arizona

I found this post from earlier in the year and must have forgotten to share it.

I got the incredible opportunity to chaperone a field trip for my son's 7th grade class. The destination......the Grand Canyon! I love the Grand Canyon. The sight of it is breathtaking!  But we didn't just go there to view the beauty, we hiked down into it. This was a first for me. I don't think people realize how big this canyon is. I have been asked if we hiked down to the Colorado River. We hiked in about a mile and a half. To get to the river was a 24 mile hike. We did not have the time or supplies or probably the mental capacity to take a bunch of 7th graders on a hike that far.
The mile and a half felt like 10 miles as it was. I consider myself to be in pretty good shape, but the climb back out of the canyon almost kicked my butt. It took a lot of water and a few stops to catch my breath. It was totally worth it though. I got some amazing memories with my son and got to know some of his friends. Plus, I can now say that I have hiked into the Grand Canyon. It is quite an accomplishment if I do say so myself.
