Throwback Thursday!!!

I love flowers! I love to look at them and photograph them and pick them. I love their colors and shapes and sizes. I plant flowers every year.
I took this photo in 2013 of the poppies that grow in my yard. The orange is so bright and brilliant! I was laying on the ground under my flowers to capture this photo. But I say it works. It is one of my favorite flower photos yet.

What To Wear Wednesday!!!!

School is just around the corner.....again. Summer seems to fly by every year. I went into a local store and there it was, lines and lines of school supplies. Crayons, pencils, folders, and notebooks galore. I admit this is not my favorite time of the year. It is probably my least favorite actually. I love having my kids home with me. I love to see them each morning with sleepy eyes and messy hair and be able to spend the morning with them. I love to watch them goof around with each other and laugh so hard at their antics. I hate saying goodbye to them when school starts.

If I am honest, the school year does have some days that I love as well. Like watching them play sports or in band. Weekends become even more special to spend with them because I haven't seen much of them all week. Then there is the holidays and family traditions. I love family traditions. I wrote a blog post about some of our traditions.

So what does this all have to do with what to wear? It doesn't, I just decided to reminisce. LOL

Today's article is what to wear for school photos. I thought with school on the horizon I would provide some tips. And this article has some really practical tips. Check it out when planning for those photos this year. Here is the link:

The best color to wear when having school picture taken

I have to put a plug in here as well. I am running a special mini session in August for school photos. Check it out at my Facebook page Remembrance Photography by Terri and click on events. I have several backdrops and am offering several prints. I hope you will take a moment to see.

I hope you enjoy this article. Let me know what you think. I would love to hear from you if you have any school photo tips. I will share some on my page. Have fun getting ready for a new school year and Happy Clicking!!

Foto Tip Friday!!!

Taking photos of your pets is not much different than taking photos of children. They don't sit still and you have to use funny noises to get them to look at you. LOL

Here are a few things to remember when you try to capture your sweet furry children.

1. Try to get down on their level. Get down on the floor or ground. They find you more interesting when you are at their level and you capture them as they are. This photo is of my cat sleeping on the arm of our couch. I got down on the floor to get a photo of him sleeping.

Although I have stood up above them as well and it was a neat angle. I took this photo of my dog waiting to come inside on a cold day. The snow around her made her colors and eyes pop so I couldn't resist taking a photo of her.

2. Sit off to the side and click photos of them at play. I love that God made cats so playful. I have as much fun watching our cat play as I did my children when they were little. They are so cute. I love it!!!

3. Use some fun props. This is a photo of my friends dog when she first got him. He was so tiny. We decided to take a photo of him with the football to show his size and also because her husband is a football fan. It turned out to be a sweet photo.

4. Be patient! Working with animals can be time consuming. Sit back and enjoy them and you will get some amazing shots. These furry members of our family aren't around forever so capture some photos of them to show others for years after they are gone.

Share some of your pet photos on my Facebook page. I can't wait to see what creative juices are flowing out there.

Throwback Thursday!!!!

This is one of my favorite photos! It is fun and cute and shows such personality. This sweet girl is just that....sweet! Photos don't have to be posed. Actually, I prefer it if they aren't. I like to show the character of my subjects. This photo will always move me!

Business Photos

I did a business photo session this past weekend. They call them head shots, but I don't like that name. It sounds awful. LOL. So I am going to call them business photos.

Here is how her photo turned out.

I love how her beautiful blue eyes just pop. I would do business with her, wouldn't you?

Foto Tip Friday!

Today's tip is about lens hoods. I see people leaving a lens hood on at all times, but is this really necessary? What is a lens hood used for anyway?

Here is your answer. A lens hood helps keep out glare from the sun or other lighting. Have you taken a photo and the glare from the sun left the photo very hazy? That is what the hood is for. Just like when we cup our hands over our eyes to block the sun, the lens hood does this for the lens. If you don't have a lens hood you can actually use your hand to block the bright light.

The lens hood is sometimes also used to protect the lens. So, that is why some people keep it on all the time.

Try it next time you are taking photos outside. Either a hood or your hand and see the difference.

Throwback Thursday!!!!

Today's photo was taken about 4 years ago for this young lady's sweet 16 birthday. I was asked to capture her party which was beautiful and the family went all out to celebrate this milestone in their daughters life. This is what I love about taking photos. This family will have the memory of their daughters birthday to look back on forever.

So, even if you don't hire a professional to capture a big moment in your life, find a friend or family member to capture it for you. You will not be sorry.

What To Wear Wednesday!!!

I think I have done a post on this subject before, but beings it is Summer and that means swimsuit season, I will post it again. Styles change all the time. So, this post is what swimsuit flatters what body shape. I need this just as much as anybody hehe. I hope it helps you in your search for the most flattering suit. It can be a depressing mission for us girls. We can use all the help we can get, unless you have one of those bodies that can wear anything. 😜

Here is the link to a great article I found on the subject from Shape magazine.

It doesn't have to be of the fireworks, it could be a sweet memory from that day. It also can be any 4th, not just the one that passed. I do want the photo to be taken by you. This is your opportunity to show and tell. I can't wait to see your photos.

Foto Tip Friday!!!!

It is Friday already!!! That means I have a Foto Tip for you. Today's tip is for those who have a DSLR camera. I hope you know what DSLR means but just in case you don't, it means digital single-lens reflex.

Your camera should have a mirror and a sensor. Sometimes dust gets in the camera and can get on the photos you take. Dust on the mirror doesn't show on a photo, but dust on the sensor definitely does. But there is an easy way to clean the sensor.

(These instructions are for a Nikon) Simply go into your set up menu and find clean image sensor. Click OK. Next, you will see an option to clean sensor. Click OK again and your sensor will clean itself. What it does is lightly shakes off any dust. You won't feel the shake but it does make a difference. Try it if you are noticing little specks in your photos that you are not sure how they got there.

Throwback Thursday!!!

This photo was taken back in the Fall of 2012. This was one of my daughters school photos. I look at it and she seems so little, but it doesn't seem like it was so long ago. I remember the day I took this photo.
I started my photography business with photos just like this....school photos. I have 5 children. School photos are not terribly expensive for just 1 child but when you take it times 5 it adds up quickly.
At first, I took my kids photos to save money and then I realized how much I enjoyed taking photos and I was pretty good at it. A hobby was born!
All you moms out there probably can relate with the fact that when you have small children, you don't have hobbies. Your kids are your hobbies. Lol!
As time went on and I was taking photos for friends kids, I decided to take my hobby to the next level. Today, I take photos to bless others. I don't charge a lot because I want to offer something special; a keepsake. You can't put a price on memories. 💕
