What's in Your Closet?

Do you have a closet full of clothes or just a few pieces? I love clothes. Actually, I went to college for Fashion Merchandising, but then married a farmer in a small town. Almost any career in fashion requires a larger city to find a job that will go anywhere. But I don't regret not going into fashion one bit. I have found that being a photographer is more fulfilling and allows me to be with my family and I use many of the things I learned in college anyway. So, it was worth it.
Back to clothes.....I love clothes. But sometimes it can be overwhelming trying to pick out what to wear. I found this great article that suggests 10 clothing items every woman should have in their closet. Check it out and see how many of them you have already in your closet.

My Portfolio

As a photographer and an artist, I have a portfolio of some of my best shots. I have taken photos of almost every big event in a persons life. This includes sweet babies before and after they enter the world, school photos that you aren't afraid to look back at, smiling Seniors, fun engagements, whimsical weddings, families of various sizes, and even those precious pets. If you haven't taken a look at my portfolio, please do. If there is something you want to see and I don't have it on my site, contact me and I will show you. I love to show off the beautiful faces and amazing events I have captured! Your face or event can be on my website too.

Welcome to My Thanksgiving!!!

Thanksgiving is behind us already. Now on to Christmas......wait...whoa......hold your horses. I don't want Thanksgiving to be over yet. I love Thanksgiving.

What about you? What traditions do you have for Thanksgiving? What did you grow up with? Did you continue the traditions of your family? Let me tell you a little about mine........

Welcome to my Thanksgiving! At my house the day always starts with the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. Followed by cooking and more cooking until the house smells absolutely divine. (It always amazes me how long it takes to prepare everything and how quick it is to eat it. Lol.) After we enjoy our meal we sit back and relax and enjoy visiting with family and friends. We eventually stuff some pie into our still full tummies and sit back again. Somewhere in between we clean up the kitchen and dining room. Our evening usually ends with us all sitting around to watch a holiday movie.

It makes me sad that Thanksgiving seems to get forgotten between Halloween and Christmas. Does anyone agree? It is a holiday in which we receive nothing but the company of family and friends. No one gives gifts or knocks on doors for candy, we just enjoy each other as we break bread and express to each other how thankful we are. I love it!!!!
I hope you had an enjoyable Thanksgiving at your home. Ours was another one I will never forget and I already can't wait for next year!!!!!!

Our Anniversary Getaway!!

My sweet hubby and I have been married for 23 years! I didn't think anyone could or would put up with me this long, but I am glad he proved me wrong. LOL
We have a tradition of taking a weekend away, just the 2 of us, for our anniversary. The tradition started when our kids were pretty young and we lived in Minnesota, much closer to family. so it was a little easier. Grandma was thrilled to come stay with her babies while we took a 2 night trip to Minneapolis. We would stay at a special hotel that had a theater which offered some hilarious plays. We would get a great package deal which included the room, play, and a meal.
When we moved to Arizona we tried to continue the tradition, but it wasn't as easy because now family is really far away. We had friends who offered one year, but I got the flu so we had to stay home. They were sweet enough to take the kids to protect them from the nasty flu germs floating around our home.
We took a couple years off from our lovely tradition to let our kiddos grow up a bit. Thankfully we were able to resume our tradition again.
For our 20th anniversary Grandma flew all the way down here to take her babies again while we went to California to relive our honeymoon at the happiest place on Earth.....Disneyland. It was a trip I will never forget!

We just got home from another relaxing anniversary weekend. Our marriage is so very important to us. We want to take care of it and nurture it. Part of that is to get time alone to be a couple, a husband and wife, not mom and dad. One day it will be just us again. Sniff Sniff. When our sweet children are all grown. I want to know my husband now, so when that time comes we don't have to look at each other like strangers saying, "now what?"
We are already planning our 25th. It is going to be bigger than the other getaways.....a milestone. I can't wait!
I wish everyone took the time to nurture their marriage. It doesn't have to cost much. A marriage relationship has the potential to grow into something so beautiful if cared for tenderly. Marriage is a major life decision and should always be treated as precious, because it is.

Here are a few photos from our weekend!!!

Did you know I do most of my photography sessions on location? We live in such a beautiful area that the backdrops are limitless. But I do have a studio as well. Unfortunately it is not big and elaborate, but it does produce some sweet photos. I have a portable backdrop that I set up in my garage. Ok, let me explain a little something here before you picture this. Lol We don't use our garage for our cars, we use it for an extra space for parties and other get togethers. We have a fridge, bar, table and chairs in there. It does have storage and gardening tools as well, so that part is a garage. When I open the big door, it allows me to get that natural light I love for my photography. I also use several digital backdrops to provide my clients the perfect photo.

Foto Tip Friday!!! Reflector in a Pinch

This week has been something else. I am so glad it was Friday! Here is your photo tip for the week.

Are you trying to stay in a photo budget like me? You want to buy all this neat stuff for taking photos but don't want to spend the money. Well, here is a neat, cheap trick you can use and you probably don't have to buy a thing.

If you haven't used a reflector than I recommend you start. Look up some different techniques on the internet. But instead of buying a genuine photography reflector, you can use the shade you have in your car that is used to keep the sun out while your car sits.

Now that it is Fall, it may be harder to find those shades, so here is another inexpensive option. A piece of insulation. One side is a shiny silver layer that  reflects light perfectly. Funny huh?

You would be surprised at all the neat little tricks you can find that will save you money. I will bring you more next time! So until then have a great week!

Throwback Thursday!!! The Farm

I was looking through some photos looking for a particular photo when I spotted this one. It was taken in 2015 and I had forgotten all about it. I took this up in ND at my in laws farm.
When my hubby and I first got married, he farmed with his dad. I was a city girl and let me tell you, it gave me a new respect for farmers and how long and hard they work. I still can't consider myself a country girl, but I am old fashioned and like to do things, like raising my kids, the old fashioned way. I guess that is why I like this photo so much. 👪🤠

What To Wear!!!!! Interview Outfits!

Ok, so I haven't actually gone on an interview for about 10 years, so I thought it would be neat to look and see what is trending now for interview attire. I see it hasn't changed a whole lot, but it isn't a bad idea to keep updated just in case. I hope you don't have to use this unless you choose to.

I was always told to dress for the job you are interviewing for.....as if you already have it. I guess, it depends on what you are interviewing for. I had an instance where I was interviewing at a clothing store and wore an outfit I had bought there. But the outfit was not totally appropriate for an interview and it cost me the job. It wasn't distasteful, it was just too trendy and not enough business.

Check out this article and pass it on to those you know who are looking for a job. It may be what makes the difference between getting the job and not getting the job.

Going Against the Grain

We just had a pretty unconventional event in our family. But before I tell you what it is, I want to give you a little background. I am opening up here to share a little about me.

Mark and I celebrated our 23rd anniversary. We have had an amazing marriage thanks to God bringing us together and we have kept Him a big part of our lives. It wasn't always that way though.
When we were dating we decided we wanted to live together before we were married, much to the chagrin of our parents. I wish we had waited to live together because with our decision came many times of feeling shame.
So, when our oldest daughter came to us and said she wanted to move in with her fiance', we were less than thrilled. We didn't give her a long lecture or shake our fingers at her. We simply told her she is an adult and she is old enough to make her own decisions. We reminded her how we felt and how God felt, but told her we would love her no matter what she decided. We didn't want to shame her. God isn't about shame.
What they did next surprised Mark and I! They sat down with us several weeks later and told us they wanted to get married early. They were planning to keep their original wedding date of June 30th, but wanted to sign the papers and take their vows early. Unfortunately, my first thought was not the reason they had come to this decision. So why? They said they wanted to be right before God! What!? Talk about going against the grain of society! We hadn't expected this but were very humbled they had come to this decision. They said they didn't want to feel shame for living together and knew it wasn't the way God wanted their life together to start.
Wow! We were so happy to see them make such an adult decision. As my brother put it, "They are making  a decision that puts them ahead of many couples who have been married for years."

So, on October 19th, (a Thursday) our sweet daughter married Tim through lots of tears of joy. There was just a handful of people there. Above all and most importantly, God was there and I bet He had tears of joy as well.
It was simple, sweet and only took about 15 minutes. There was not a party after. We all went our own way, but this was not for us. It was for God!

Mark and I left there feeling peace! We met a few of the people that had been around them while they made this decision. They had a mentor couple and other college age friends who had been praying for them for months before this day. We got the blessing of seeing these people love on them first hand.

I will never forget this day! God opened my eyes to see what I was not seeing in my daughter......a God fearing young lady.
We are blessed beyond measure and we know without a doubt that God is going to be with them each and every step of the way. Through good times and the bad, for richer or for poorer, in sickness and in health, and even after death parts them.

Foto Tip Friday!!! Camera Shake

We all have had those moments. It's the perfect shot. You take a photo and look at your camera to see how it came out.....Perfect!!! Woo Hoo!!!!!  Next you upload it to your computer. You can't wait to share it. You are so proud of yourself, but wait......there it is on your computer screen and it doesn't look like you thought. It has blur from Camera Shake!!!! Ahhhhh!

How do you avoid this? Well, here are a few tips.

  1. Use a tripod. I know we don't carry our tripod everywhere we go, but this is the simplest and most obvious way to avoid motion blur. If you don't have a tripod, brace yourself against a solid object like a wall or tree for extra stability.
  2. Be sure to hold your camera properly. You should have one hand on the body and one hand on the lens.
  3. Use your Noise Reduction or Stabilization option in your cameras menu. This doesn't prevent all blur, but it helps.
  4. Use the correct shutter speed. The rule of thumb is to shoot at a shutter speed faster then your focal length. (ie. focal length of 35 mm = shutter speed no slower than 1/35th of a second)

What To Wear!!!!

ClipartextrasImage result for sun and cloudsWe all ask ourselves from time to time "what should I wear?" But did you know there is a site that will help you decide what to wear based on the weather? Is it sunny and 65 or rainy and 73? It doesn't matter, this site will tell you what to wear.

I have my own way of deciding what to wear. Lol. If it is 65 or higher, I wear short sleeves and shorts....65 or lower I wear long sleeves and pants......60 or lower, I add a jacket. I know, I am a bit too organized.

Here is the link if you care to see what you should wear tomorrow. Click here.
