Foto Tip Friday!!!! Flash Compensation

Thank Goodness It's Friday! I have had a very busy week. I don't know about you, but I am wiped out this week. That is why my foto tip is not on video. I wanted to get it out on time and doing a video wasn't going to happen. I am looking forward to a quiet weekend to catch up and breath before I start another week. 

My foto tip this week is about flash compensation. Whether you use an on camera or off camera flash, it is very important to know how to adjust for different levels of light coming from your flash. Practice changing levels and see what you like. What looks the most natural? If you have an off camera flash try bouncing the light off the ceiling or wall so it will be less harsh. It sure makes a difference when your lighting is right. 

Here is a perfect example of using flash wrong. I am so embarrassed to show this photo, but here goes. This is my sweet son about 4 years ago. Notice the shadow behind him? I now know that if I had bounced my flash it would not have done this and would have been more natural. Also, I should have had my son step away from the backdrop a little and used less flash. That could have eliminated the shadow as well. 

If you are not sure how to adjust your flash than ...... you know what I am going to say, don't you? Get your users manual and do some studying up on it. I can't say that enough. Lol

I am going to tell you a little about myself. I am going out there to reveal that as a kid I was a nerd. I was bullied and grew up not liking who looked back at me in the mirror. I spent many years trying to like myself. I tried to convince myself, I saw a therapist, and I cried many tears because I just never seemed to match up to everyone else. Self esteem is a subject that is dear to my heart. How do I feel today? I love myself in a healthy way. I have a confidence I never thought I could ever have. How did I finally reach this coveted place in my life? Honestly, it was my faith and my age. I grew up and realized what others thought was really not that important. Oh, don't get me wrong, I do have my moments. I am female after all. We have times where that outfit makes us feel fat or our hair just won't work right. This is normal. What is abnormal is when you change clothes 6 different times and end up sitting on the floor crying because you feel like you can't actually go out in public looking like you do. I am sorry if this is you. I have been there and it is not a good place.

I will start. I would change my stomach. I have given birth 4 times and it shows. hehe. I have always wanted a flat stomach and despite the thousands of sit ups I have done over the years, it still is anything but flat. Now you. Ready? Set? Go!!!!

Yes, holiday photos! November and December are right around the corner. Once the ball begins rolling it is hard to find time to catch it, so let's start early this year.

I know it says you need to make your appointment by Sept. 15th, but I have extended it to Sept. 20th. I have been very busy, so I am sympathetic to all of you who have been busy too and maybe didn't see this special.

Throwback Thursday!!!

We moved to Arizona in 2008. It was shortly after that, I began my adventure into photography by taking my kids photos. Here is one of my sons first school photos....literally. I don't think he ever had a photo from the school. Lol He is now 13. Here he was 5. What sweet memories. 

I am so glad I did this. Now each of my kids school photos are even more personal to me. I miss those days. I just want to climb into the photo and hug him. Lol. Ok enough sappy stuff.

Hey, everyone. It's is Thursday or as I like to call it Friday Eve. I want to change things up a bit. I have been showing past photos from sessions I did years ago. Today's photo is of my sweet now 13 year old son. He always has a smile and makes me laugh so hard. I love taking goofy photos of my kids. So, here is one of my goofy youngest. Lol
